RURUTU & TUBUAI

Taro in all its state

  • Rise with the sun, you will set to the rhythm of the island’s farmers and leave for your very first immersion on the theme of the taro. Taro is the purple or yellow tuber that forms the basis of the Polynesian diet. The Australians grow the best varieties, and taro is an institution. One of our favourite farmers will take you to his tarodium where you will participate in planting and harvesting activities. Once the precious ingredient is loaded into the wheelbarrow, it will be time to go to the kitchen and discover the many ways to prepare it. Enjoy your meal alongside your host.

  • The Australs are the home of basketry in French Polynesia. Through this immersion, you will understand the entire manufacturing process and never look at a basket or a woven carpet with the same eye again. Our favorite artisans will guide you through their fields of paeore (pandanus), the raw material grown for basketry. Once the paeore leaves are harvested, dried and prepared for braiding, you will have the opportunity to make your own braided object. This is a rare opportunity to get involved in the daily lives of Australians, for whom basketry is a real way of life rather than just an economic activity.
